Everyone knows or should know that keywords are important in promoting a website and you do want to choose the very best keywords for your site. Unfortunately, this is a lot easier said than done. That is especially the case when your budgets are limited. Although you can use the free keyword research tools I mentioned some time ago, how do you choose the best keywords, those that will work? This is a tough question to answer.
The truth is that you will need to do quite a lot of research in order to find those great keywords. There are different things that you can do in order to compare keywords and try to figure out what will work better. I am going to talk about one of the methods that you can use and that few people actually consider:
Using Google Ads To Test Keywords
The idea is quite simple:
Before you optimize and you do SEO work for a specific keyword, you want to buy traffic that comes in through that keyword.
An Example
Let’s say that you want to see if keyword “buy red shoes” will be a good one to optimize for. You want to buy the keyword with Google Keyword Planner. You do not need to invest a lot. I do not know how much the term costs but the idea is to buy something like 100 to 1000 clicks, based on your budget.
Make sure that you always choose your audience properly since this does count. For instance, if you can only ship the red shoes to California, you want people from California clicking.
After the campaign is over, you will be able to see what conversions appear. If you generate 2 sales per 100 clicks and a pair of those red shoes is $30, you make $60 and the conversion is 2%. This is just some extra information you may want to use for other purposes.
Try 3-5 keywords. See which one generates the highest income for you. Alternatively, if you want to generate subscriptions to your newsletter, you will focus on those conversions. Based on the results of the campaigns, you will know what keywords you want to use in your search engine optimization campaigns.
Try It!
Obviously, if you cannot invest in the ads, you will not be able to use this method. However, if you can, do try it since you will gain a lot of time as you can focus on the best possible keywords for your sites.
